Originally relocated over 100km from central Tauranga, this classic 1920s bungalow has been given a new life in Morrinsville. The home was completely stripped back to its frame and rebuilt from the inside out, resulting in a house that performs like a brand-new build while retaining all the original period details that define its character. The outcome is a rare balance: the comfort, cleanliness, and efficiency of a new home, paired with the warmth and charm of a beautifully restored, period-correct bungalow.

A full renovation was undertaken to upgrade the home for modern family living while preserving its original character.

The existing floorplan was dark and disconnected, with small, enclosed rooms that no longer aligned with how families live today. The brief was to create a home that feels light, flexible, and functional, while still honouring the proportions and detailing of the original bungalow.

We reconfigured internal walls to improve flow and maximise natural light, introducing adaptable living spaces that can be opened up for connection or closed off for privacy as needed. This allows the home to shift with day-to-day living, whether that’s quiet, separate rooms or larger, open spaces for entertaining. The bathroom was also reimagined, evolving from a small, confined space into a spacious, contemporary room with an improved layout and functionality suited to modern family life. Original timber detailing was carefully retained and restored where possible, while new elements were integrated in a way that feels cohesive and true to the home’s era. Structural upgrades have future-proofed the house, improving both performance and longevity.
